The Fed has backed Retail NI and the Federation of Sub-Post Masters in their initiative to support Post Offices and High Street footfall across Northern Ireland at an event at Stormont on Tuesday 3rd March.

Many Fed members in Northern Ireland host postal services which provide a range of key services including cash, parcel and public services like Passport and driving licence applications, TV licences and ID verification for job seekers. However, the campaign is calling for support from Government so small retailers can enhance what is provided.

Gwen Patterson from the Fed attended and said that: “It was an extremely positive meeting and the Fed is keen to collaborate with those who understand the importance of Postal Services for our members but also the wider Northern Ireland retail economy.

In particular was good to note the cross-party political interest and it was good to speak with Matthew O’Toole MLA from SDLP and Diane Forsyth MLA from DUP; I would like to thank them for their time and interest.”

In particular, the campaign has pointed to continued demand for Cash withdrawals, Deposits and Balance enquiries for individual and business customers. Meanwhile, they are also seeking for the introduction of DPD services which are available in Britain but not in Northern Ireland.
